OpenAI reports significant existing government usage of their technology, with over 90,000 users across more than 3,500 U.S. government agencies having sent more than 18 million messages. Several notable implementations include:
The Air Force Research Laboratory is using it for administrative tasks and AI education. Los Alamos National Laboratory is applying it to scientific research, particularly in their Bioscience Division. The State of Minnesota is utilizing it for translation services, while the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has reported that employees in their pilot program saved approximately 105 minutes per day when using the tool for routine tasks.
