The Government of Ghana has officially declared Monday, March 31, 2025, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Eid-Ul-Fitr, according to a statement released by the Ministry of the Interior on March 22.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak announced that the President of Ghana has issued an Executive Instrument in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601) to establish these additional holidays.
Extended Holiday Period
Eid-Ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Since this statutory public holiday coincides with a weekend, the government has taken steps to ensure citizens can fully enjoy the celebration by extending the holiday period.
"In view of the fact that 30th March 2025 falls on a Sunday and in the interest of the public, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has declared Monday, 31st March 2025 and Tuesday, 1st April 2025 as additional Public Holidays," the statement reads.
National Observance
The Ministry has directed that these holidays should be observed throughout the country, giving Ghanaians a four-day weekend spanning from Saturday, March 29 to Tuesday, April 1.
This announcement provides citizens with ample time to plan family gatherings, travel, and religious observances related to this important Islamic festival.
