According to a publication by Shivani Mohan, Google’s vice president of data science and UXR, AI Mode queries have more than doubled every quarter since the feature was introduced. The expansion of these artificial intelligence tools has pushed total Google Search queries to an all-time high.
Mohan noted that AI Mode bridges the gap between traditional search engines and conversational AI, resulting in distinct changes to consumer behavior.
In the United States, more than one in six searches now utilize voice or images, with image-based searches growing by more than 40 percent month-over-month.
Query structures are also shifting toward longer formats. The average AI Mode search is now three times the length of a traditional search query, though Google reported volume growth across both short and long queries.
Data indicates that users are increasingly employing the AI feature for logistical and creative tasks. Over the past six months, AI Mode queries related to planning grew 80 percent faster than overall AI Mode queries.
Brainstorming queries have also outpaced general query growth by 30 percent since launch, marked by an upward trend in searches starting with phrases such as “where to,” “where should I,” and “ideas for.”
