The Government of Ghana has officially declared Friday, July 3, 2026, as an additional public holiday to be observed nationwide. The announcement comes in response to the mid-week scheduling of Republic Day, a statutory public holiday that falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the government confirmed that the decision was finalized by the President of the Republic of Ghana through an Executive Instrument (E.I.). The executive action was taken in strict compliance with the legal provisions outlined in Section 2 of the country's Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.
Because Republic Day occurs on a Wednesday, the presidential directive establishes the subsequent Friday as an official extension of the holiday period. The notice, signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), explicitly directs the general public throughout all regions of the country to observe Friday, July 3, 2026, as a statutory holiday.
