Alphabet Inc.’s Google announced on Tuesday, June 30, that it has integrated its Gemini artificial intelligence model into its AdSense monetization platform, marking the company's latest push to embed generative AI deep into its core advertising ecosystem.
The technology giant is rolling out an update to its "ad intents" feature, a tool that automatically converts existing text on a webpage into hyperlinks or anchor units. Moving forward, when a user clicks or interacts with one of these ad intents, the resulting dialog box will display contextually relevant text generated by Gemini alongside traditional display advertisements.
The company expects the addition of generative AI to yield higher engagement rates for web publishers.
"Based on our tests, showing Gemini-generated content in the dialog improves the user experience and can help increase your earnings," Google said in a support publication detailing the update.
The automation of ad formatting has become a central focus for major advertising networks looking to maximize yield as internet browsing habits evolve. By integrating conversational AI elements directly into the ad path, Google aims to give users immediate value or information that keeps them engaged within the ad frame longer.
Google noted that web publishers using the platform will not need to make code adjustments or manually opt-in to the new format. The Gemini-generated content is being deployed automatically across all active ad intent units globally.
