Newly unveiled Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has assured players competing in the Ghana Premier League and other domestic competitions that they will be considered for national team selection on equal terms, with performance and merit serving as the primary criteria.
Speaking at his official unveiling ceremony at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Thursday, the Portuguese coach stated that no player holds an automatic right to a place in the squad, and that selection would be determined by performance, experience, knowledge, and character. He further noted that physical fitness and mental determination would carry equal weight in the assessment process.
Queiroz acknowledged that representing a national team demands a higher standard than club football, and stressed that any player called up, whether locally or foreign-based, must be capable, determined, experienced, and physically prepared.
The declaration addresses a long-standing debate in Ghanaian football over the balance between foreign-based professionals and locally active players, with Ghana Premier League call-ups having been infrequent in recent years.
