Google has announced a suite of new AI-powered features across its Search, Maps, Translate, and Wallet products aimed at simplifying travel planning and navigation ahead of the summer season.
Among the key additions is a travel planning tool within AI Mode in Search, which allows users to describe their ideal trip and receive a custom itinerary, including flight and hotel options and a mapped view of local attractions, through a feature called Canvas. The tool saves planning progress automatically and is available to all users in the United States.
Google also launched individual hotel price tracking globally, allowing signed-in users searching in English or Spanish to monitor rate changes for specific properties. Previously, price tracking was only available at the city level. Users are notified by email when rates shift significantly during selected dates.
In the restaurant booking space, agentic capabilities in AI Mode and the company's Ask Maps feature now allow users to describe dining preferences and receive real-time availability across reservation platforms, with direct links to complete bookings via partners including OpenTable and Resy. The feature is live in the United States and has been expanded to the United Kingdom, India, Canada, and Australia.
On the shopping side, a tool that enables Google to call nearby stores on a user's behalf, to check product availability and deals, is expanding to AI Mode in the coming weeks in the U.S., having first launched on Search last November. The feature uses Google's Gemini models and Duplex technology.
For international travellers, Google's Translate app has been updated with live translation support through headphones across more than 70 languages. Built on Gemini speech models, the feature preserves speaker tone and cadence and is available on Android and iOS.
Ask Maps, a conversational search experience powered by Gemini, is now available to all users in the United States and India across Android, iOS, and desktop. The tool draws on content from a community described as having 500 million contributors to deliver personalised recommendations for activities, amenities, and points of interest.
Finally, Google Wallet on Android now delivers live flight updates, including delays, gate changes, and baggage claim information, to a user's lock screen, alongside the option to create a digital ID pass using a passport for use at supported TSA checkpoints.
