Google has launched the first wave of applications for 100,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships in Ghana, the company announced, fulfilling a pledge made at the opening of its AI Community Center in Accra in 2025.
The scholarships will be distributed exclusively through Ghana's One Million Coders (OMC) Program, a national initiative championed by President John Dramani Mahama with the stated goal of training one million Ghanaians in digital skills by 2030.
Google said the certificates offer flexible online training designed by its experts to prepare individuals for high-growth technology careers in under six months, with no prior experience required.
Available tracks include Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing and E-commerce, IT Support, Project Management, UX Design, and AI Essentials and Professional, a 10-hour course focused on the practical application of generative AI in the workplace.
The rollout is being implemented in collaboration with Ghana's Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), integrating Google's industry-standard certifications into the national digital skills framework.
Applications are open via the One Million Coders platform at onemillioncoders.gov.gh. The announcement was authored by Charles Murito, Google's Regional Director for Government Affairs and Public Policy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
