Despite the new name, Gemini Notebook remains a standalone research application. Google says the rebranding reflects its plan to make the service work more seamlessly across the broader Gemini ecosystem, including the Gemini app and Google Search.
A key upgrade is the introduction of a secure cloud computer for every notebook. This allows Gemini Notebook to natively write and execute code, enabling users to analyze datasets, perform calculations, and generate more sophisticated research outputs while keeping responses grounded in their uploaded sources.
The cloud computing capability is available immediately for Google AI Ultra users and qualifying Google Workspace business customers. Google said it will expand access to Google AI Pro subscribers on the web over the coming weeks.
Google is also expanding cross-platform integration. Users can already create, edit, and synchronize notebooks between the standalone Gemini Notebook service and the Gemini app, making it easier to continue projects across devices. The company also plans to integrate notebooks into AI Mode in Google Search, further extending access to personalized research and knowledge management.
The announcement builds on Google's broader effort to consolidate its AI products under the Gemini brand while enhancing productivity features for users handling complex projects, research, and document-heavy workflows.
