Anfoega Senior High School in Ghana’s Volta Region will open its 60th anniversary year with a three-day launch programme in early November, drawing alumni, students and community members to a mix of cultural performances, health activities and thanksgiving services.
The events, scheduled for November 1 to 3, are designed as both a homecoming and the ceremonial start of a year-long celebration that will culminate in 2025.
The opening day begins with arrivals and a funfair on campus led by High School Connect, featuring Ghanaian musician Tulenkey. The evening will turn to tradition with a Borborbor session, a drumming and dance performance rooted in the Volta Region.
Saturday carries the weight of the launch. A dawn health walk through Anfoega will be followed by breakfast and the official unveiling of the anniversary year, a ceremony expected to include speeches from prominent alumni and exhibitions of the school’s milestones. Afterward, the day shifts into lighter activities with lunch, games, supper and evening entertainment.
The final day closes with a thanksgiving service in the morning and a meeting between alumni and the school’s leadership, a space for reflection and discussions about the future.
Founded in 1964, Anfoega Senior High has long been a key educational institution in the Volta Region. Organisers say the November programme is less about formality than about drawing people together, a chance for former students to reconnect, for current students to see the school’s legacy, and for the wider community to mark the beginning of a milestone year.
