The new route marks Delta's second direct link between Ghana and the United States, signaling continued strategic focus on the West African market, according to a press release issued on behalf of the airline and seen by the Ghana News Agency.
The service is expected to enhance travel convenience for passengers, particularly Ghanaians, by eliminating the need for layovers typically required on indirect flights, thereby reducing overall travel time.
The Atlanta-Accra service will be operated using the modern Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This wide-body jet is configured with Delta's range of cabin classes, including the premium Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin seating options, offering varied levels of service and comfort for passengers.
Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), which serves as Delta's largest operational center globally and is frequently ranked among the world's busiest airports by passenger volume, will provide travelers arriving from Accra with extensive onward connectivity. The airline highlights that passengers can access Delta's network of over 215 destinations across the United States and internationally from Atlanta, including major cities such as Miami, Dallas, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
The airline stated the direct route is particularly aimed at serving the increasing travel demand between Ghana and the U.S., which is driven by factors including business engagements, family visits by the significant Ghanaian diaspora, and peak travel seasons such as the annual December holiday period.
Onboard the new route, Delta will offer complimentary high-speed Delta Sync Wi-Fi access to its SkyMiles frequent flyer members. This connectivity allows passengers to stream entertainment, receive real-time travel updates, and engage in online activities while airborne. The airline notes this feature is part of a broader initiative to equip its fleet with advanced dual-network connectivity systems.
Delta has maintained a commercial presence and operated flights in Ghana for over a decade. The introduction of this second direct route is viewed by the airline as a significant step in deepening the air travel ties and connections between the two countries.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, comfortable, and technologically connected travel experiences to meet the rising demand for travel between Ghana and the United States.
