The album's release followed an initial announcement on social media platform X on February 5, 2025, where Lyrical Joe described the forthcoming project as a manifestation of "passion, purpose, and power." A subsequent announcement on May 3, 2025, provided the official release date and the full tracklist via his social media channels.
Leading up to the album's debut, Lyrical Joe released five tracks included in the "I AM" compilation. This included the single "Julie" featuring Beeztrap KOTM, which premiered with a music video in November 2024. Other pre-release tracks were "Healing," "Feed My Soul," "Holy Sky," and "TES (Two Edged Sword)." The latter, a collaboration with fellow Ghanaian rapper Medikal produced by ATown TSB, was released on April 18, 2025, accompanied by a music video that generated significant online attention.
In separate releases earlier in the year, Lyrical Joe shared non-album rap cyphers. "CRISIS," featuring Odeneho Cannella, Trooth Wordsmith, Korley Black, and Tician Ruler, was released on January 31, 2025. On May 14, 2025, two days before the album launch, he released the "BM (Beast Mode) Cypher" featuring rappers Obibini and Strongman. Both cyphers were produced by Phredxter with videos directed by NII JOSIAH.
"I AM" follows Lyrical Joe's 2023 debut studio album, "Photo Album," a 15-track project that included collaborations with artists such as Efya, Darkovibes, Sefa, E.L, and Medikal from Ghana, and Nigerian rapper A-Q.
The new album features contributions from musician E.L and radio personality Andy Dosty. Production credits for "I AM" go to Phredxter, ATown TSB, E.L, and JuiczXxx.
Lyrical Joe, 29, is a recognized figure in the Ghanaian music landscape. He won the Best Rap Performance award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA formerly VGMA) in 2022 and the 3Music Awards in 2024. This year (2025), he was nominated for two TGMA awards: Best Rap Performance for his track "5th August 8" and Best Hiplife Song for "Enter," a collaborative effort with Kuami Eugene. His online presence includes over 191,000 monthly listeners on Audiomack and more than 21,700 on Spotify.
