The artificial intelligence company said it will begin testing advertisements in the United States for free users and Go subscribers, aiming to reduce usage limits and expand access without requiring payment from more users. Premium tiers including Pro, Business, and Enterprise will remain advertisement-free.
ChatGPT Go, which first launched in India in August, 2025 before expanding to 171 countries, provides expanded messaging capabilities, image creation, file uploads, and memory features. The subscription tier is now available in the United States and all markets where ChatGPT operates.
OpenAI outlined five governing principles for its advertising implementation. The company pledged that advertisements will not influence ChatGPT's responses, which will remain optimized for user utility rather than commercial considerations. All advertisements will appear separately from answers and carry clear labeling.
