The announcement, issued by the Ministry's Public Affairs and Communications Unit, confirmed that the payment covers all arrears owed to eligible officers across the three services under the Ministry of the Interior's supervision. The ministry did not specify the total monetary value of the arrears or the number of personnel affected.
In its statement, the ministry expressed appreciation to the affected officers for their patience and understanding during what it described as a difficult waiting period. The acknowledgment signals that the delay had been a known concern within the affected services.
Beyond clearing the backlog, the Ministry announced a significant administrative reform in how rent allowances will be handled going forward. Starting March 2026, rent allowance payments will be mechanised and processed together with monthly salaries, eliminating the separate disbursement process that had been in place. The move is intended to ensure that officers receive their housing entitlements consistently and without delays.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that it remains committed to the welfare of all personnel under its oversight. It added that it would sustain collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders to fulfil all outstanding entitlements on time.
The Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service are all agencies that fall directly under the Ministry of the Interior's mandate of maintaining internal security and law and order in Ghana.
