Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S26 series, comprising the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, marking the company's third generation of AI-integrated flagship smartphones. Announced on February 25, 2026, in San Francisco and available for pre-order on the same day, the lineup is engineered around what Samsung describes as the most intuitive, proactive and adaptive Galaxy AI experience to date.

What Powers The Galaxy S26 Series

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is driven by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a customized chipset co-developed with Qualcomm. Compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung reports a 19% improvement in CPU performance, a 39% gain in NPU throughput, which underpins Galaxy AI features, and a 24% increase in GPU performance for gaming and visual workloads. The standard S26 and S26+ models use either the same Snapdragon chip or Samsung's own Exynos 2600, depending on the market.

To handle the heat generated by this level of processing, Samsung redesigned the Ultra's vapor chamber with thermal interface material placed along the sides of the processor, distributing heat across a wider surface area. The result, Samsung says, keeps the device at a consistent temperature during sustained tasks such as gaming, multitasking and extended video recording.

Battery life also receives attention: the S26 Ultra carries a 5,000 mAh cell and supports Super Fast Charging 3.0, capable of reaching 75% charge in approximately 30 minutes using a 60W adapter. The S26+ holds a 4,900 mAh battery charged to 69% in 30 minutes via a 45W adapter, while the standard S26 pairs a 4,300 mAh cell with a 25W adapter reaching 55% in the same window.

The Galaxy S26's World-First Privacy Display Explained

Perhaps the most distinctive hardware announcement is the built-in Privacy Display on the S26 Ultra, the first of its kind on any mobile phone. Unlike adhesive privacy films that permanently narrow the viewing cone, Samsung's integrated solution works at the pixel level, controlling the dispersion of light to keep content clear and comfortable for the primary viewer while limiting what can be seen from side angles. Crucially, the display maintains full, unrestricted quality when Privacy Display is switched off, preserving normal usability for shared viewing.

The system is configurable to several scenarios. Partial Screen Privacy dims notification pop-ups laterally, while Maximum Privacy Protection further obscures the side view for sensitive content. Users can also set the feature to activate automatically when entering PINs, passwords or specific apps, and the protection persists whether the phone is held in portrait or landscape orientation.

Camera System: Apertures, Nightography And A New Pro Codec

The Galaxy S26 Ultra's camera array has been revised across apertures, low-light processing and video capabilities. The 200MP wide camera's aperture now admits 47% more light than its predecessor, and the 50MP 5x telephoto gathers 37% more light, both improvements aimed primarily at sharpening detail in dim conditions. Enhanced Nightography Video extends this to footage, keeping scenes cleaner and more saturated indoors or after dark.

For videographers, the S26 Ultra introduces support for APV, a professional-grade codec designed to retain visual fidelity through repeated editing cycles. Super Steady video stabilization adds a new horizontal lock option for smoother framing during fast-paced activities, and improvements to the AI image signal processor now benefit the 12MP selfie camera as well, producing more natural skin tones in mixed lighting.

How Galaxy AI Works On The S26

Samsung's Galaxy AI framework on the S26 series operates primarily in the background, reducing the number of manual steps required to complete common tasks. The Now Nudge feature monitors context, such as incoming messages about plans, and surfaces relevant content proactively. If a friend requests trip photos via a messaging app, the system identifies and suggests appropriate images from the Gallery without the user needing to search manually. Similarly, when a message references a scheduled meeting, the phone can cross-reference the Calendar for conflicts.

Now Brief has been made more proactive compared to prior models, surfacing reminders for reservations and travel updates based on stored personal context. Circle to Search, developed with Google, gains multi-object recognition, allowing users to investigate several elements within a single image simultaneously, including identifying individual items of clothing within a complete outfit.

The upgraded Bixby responds to natural-language device commands, while Gemini and Perplexity are available as optional third-party AI agents. Multi-step tasks, such as booking a taxi through Gemini with a single voice prompt, a review step and a confirmation tap, are handled across apps without the user managing each app individually.

Photo Editing And Creative Tools

The Photo Assist suite now accepts plain-language editing instructions. Users can ask the system to shift a scene from daytime to night, restore missing portions of objects, or change the clothing worn by a subject. Edits are tracked step by step and can be individually reversed, making the process iterative rather than committed. 

Creative Studio consolidates image generation and customization, from stickers and invitations to wallpapers, into a single workspace accessible directly from the camera ecosystem. Document Scan uses AI to remove physical distortions such as paper creases or intruding fingers, then automatically compiles multiple scans into a single PDF.

Security Beyond The Privacy Display

Security on the Galaxy S26 extends well past the hardware-level privacy screen. AI-powered Call Screening identifies unknown callers and summarizes their intent before the user picks up. Privacy Alerts use machine learning to notify users in real time when apps with device administrator privileges attempt to access sensitive data such as precise location, call logs or contacts, giving users the context needed to manage permissions decisively.

Private Album stores hidden photos and videos directly inside the Gallery application without requiring a separate folder or Samsung Account login. The S26 also extends Samsung's post-quantum cryptography implementation to critical system processes including software verification and firmware protection. 

Knox Matrix, Samsung's cross-device security framework, gains PQC-enabled end-to-end encryption for additional services, including eSIM transfers, and introduces Security Status of Your Devices, which shows firmware update status across the connected Galaxy ecosystem at a glance. All Galaxy S26 models carry a commitment of seven years of security updates.

Availability, Colors And Specifications At A Glance

The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 7, and IP68 water resistance. It is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The Galaxy S26 uses a 6.3-inch FHD+ panel; the S26+ steps up to a 6.7-inch QHD+ screen. All three run Android 16 with One UI 8.5.

Color options are unified across the lineup: Cobalt Violet, White, Black and Sky Blue are available through standard retail channels, while Pink Gold and Silver Shadow are exclusive to Samsung.com. Samsung Care+ coverage is offered alongside the devices, covering accidental damage repair, extended warranty and expert support.
