Google AdSense Launches Collapsible Anchor Ads For Desktop To Boost Publisher Revenue

May 21 (Muzicgh) - Google AdSense has officially expanded its collapsible anchor ads format to desktop screens. Previously available exclusively on mobile platforms, the ad layout is now accessible on larger displays to improve user engagement and drive higher monetization opportunities for digital publishers.

The feature rollout targets screens wider than 1000 pixels. According to the official announcement, introducing collapsible functionality to desktop layouts allows publishers to capture more revenue by better accommodating high-value advertising demand, specifically outstream video and responsive display ads.

Transition to 'Dynamic Anchors' Controls

Alongside the format expansion, Google is updating its administrative interface to simplify how publishers manage these formats. The toggle configuration formerly known as "Allow collapsible anchor ads" is being rebranded as "Allow dynamic anchors."

This updated setting will serve as a centralized umbrella control. Google noted that the consolidated framework ensures publisher sites automatically inherit new, more adaptive anchor optimizations as the platform rolls them out later this year.

Automatic Implementation Timeline and Opt-Out Guidelines

The desktop dynamic anchor experience will activate automatically for publishers who are currently opted into both "collapsible anchor ads" and "anchor ads on screens wider than 1000px, like desktop."

Google has established a one-month review window running from May 21 to June 21, 2026. Current account settings will remain unaffected during this period, giving publishers time to review their configurations. If no manual changes are made by June 21, the updates will activate automatically.

Publishers who prefer not to utilize the new experience on larger screens retain full control and can manually opt out through their AdSense account dashboard. To disable the feature, publishers must navigate to the Ads section, click edit next to their site, select Overlay formats within the ad settings preview, uncheck the option to "Allow anchor ads on screens wider than 1000px, like desktop," and apply the changes to the site.
