The technology company is currently testing two new ad formats within the "AI Mode" of Google Search, named Conversational Discovery ads and Highlighted Answers. Both formats will feature an AI-written explanation that summarizes a product's details next to the business's standard advertisement to give users more context. Google noted that these advertisements will continue to be clearly labeled as “Sponsored.”
The rollout follows a December 2025 online consumer survey commissioned by Google and conducted by Ipsos. The study found that 75% of shoppers reported making faster and more confident purchasing decisions when using AI Mode in Search.
Google also plans to bring real-time AI advice to regular search results over the coming months. This includes AI-powered Shopping ads, which automatically write a custom summary explaining why a specific item, such as an espresso machine, matches what a user is looking for. Another new feature, called "Business Agent for Leads," adds a live chat button inside an ad. This allows users to ask questions and get instant answers based directly on the company's website, rather than filling out a traditional contact form.
The upcoming updates will allow businesses to bundle various promotions, such as discounts and giveaways, using AI to target the right audiences. Google is also adding a quick checkout option for merchants using the Universal Commerce Protocol to help complete sales faster. Furthermore, travel companies like Booking and Expedia will soon be able to show special deals directly within AI-assisted trip planning. These direct offers will now automatically surface within AI Mode search responses.
Google recommended that advertisers set up their campaigns using its Performance Max and AI Max tools to prepare for the rollout of the new features.
