Ghana has taken a major step toward improving its investment climate after President John Dramani Mahama signed the new Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) Act into law.
The legislation replaces the former Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act and is designed to modernize the country's investment framework while making it easier for businesses to establish and expand operations.
According to the Presidency, one of the law's key objectives is to reduce red tape by streamlining investment procedures, allowing investors to navigate regulatory processes more efficiently.
The new Act also introduces stronger legal protections for investors, providing greater certainty for both local entrepreneurs and foreign companies looking to invest in Ghana. Government officials say these measures are intended to increase confidence in the country's business environment.
In addition, the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority will receive expanded responsibilities to promote investment opportunities, facilitate business development, monitor investment projects, and provide greater institutional support for investors.
The government says the Authority will also focus on helping Ghanaian-owned businesses grow and compete more effectively within the national investment ecosystem, creating more opportunities for partnerships with international investors.
The reforms form part of the administration's wider economic strategy to stimulate private-sector growth, generate employment, and position Ghana as a preferred investment destination in West Africa. Officials believe the updated legal framework will improve the country's competitiveness as global businesses increasingly seek investment opportunities across Africa.
