Germany and Ghana will meet in an international friendly match on March 30, 2026, in Stuttgart as both nations prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The match will serve as part of the preparation schedule for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. According to the Ghana Football Association, the encounter represents a significant test for both teams ahead of the global tournament.
Ghana's national team is led by Otto Addo, a Hamburg-born coach who previously played professionally in the Bundesliga. The 15-time Ghana international won the German championship with Borussia Dortmund in 2002 before transitioning to coaching.
Germany's head coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming fixture. The German tactician noted that the match would provide valuable preparation, particularly given Ghana's playing style. He suggested the friendly could offer insights into what Germany might expect when facing Ivory Coast in their World Cup group match.
Addo welcomed the opportunity to measure his team against top-level opposition. The Ghana coach described the fixture as a chance to test his squad against one of the world's leading national teams.
Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup by winning their group. The Black Stars, who have claimed the African championship four times, will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama at the tournament.
The two nations have met on three previous occasions. Their first encounter took place in Bochum in 1993, when Germany secured a decisive 6-1 victory in a friendly match. The teams later faced each other twice at World Cup tournaments. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Germany emerged victorious with a 1-0 result during the group stage. Four years later at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the sides played to a 2-2 draw in another group-stage meeting.
The March friendly will kick off at 8:45 pm local time in Stuttgart. The fixture marks another chapter in the football relationship between the two nations and provides both coaches with an important preparation opportunity before the World Cup begins later in 2026.
