The reform, announced during the 12th Graduation Ceremony for Ministry of Health Training Institutions, will consolidate separate academic records into a single internationally recognized transcript, according to Professor Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences.
Under the previous system, graduates received two distinct transcripts with different grading standards—one from their training college and another from KNUST's diploma terminal examinations. This created complications for international credential verification and produced disparities in academic documentation.
The new framework will merge results from the training colleges with KNUST examination outcomes using a harmonized grading scale. An implementation committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Health, affiliated colleges, and KNUST will supervise the transition.
Professor Agyare said the university would maintain preferential admission pathways for college instructors pursuing postgraduate qualifications, emphasizing that faculty development remains central to improving instructional quality. KNUST will continue offering professional development programs covering modern pedagogical methods, examination practices, and student assessment techniques.
The reforms coincide with broader efforts to strengthen academic standards across Ghana's health training sector. This year's ceremony honored 19,756 graduates from 76 Ministry of Health Training Colleges, including institutions such as Korle Bu Nursing Training School, 37 Military Hospital Nursing and Midwifery Training College, and Ntotroso College of Nursing.
Professor Agyare urged graduates to maintain high ethical standards as they enter professional practice. He noted that success in healthcare would depend on compassion, professionalism, integrity, and commitment to continuous learning amid evolving medical challenges, technological advances, and systemic pressures.
The unified system is expected to enhance credential portability for Ghanaian health professionals seeking opportunities abroad and improve academic quality assurance across the affiliated institutions network.
