Organised under the office of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the retreat gathered the university’s top leadership: Pro Vice-Chancellors, the Registrar, provosts of the four Colleges, and senior Deans and Directors. The event was framed around the “5Rs,” Retreat, Reflect, Review, Re-strategise and Renew, and focused on translating strategy into measurable action.
Sessions combined expert presentations and interactive workshops on governance, finance, human resources and academic priorities. Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, outlined initiatives to strengthen research management and announced a postgraduate research support fund to improve thesis completion and research quality.

Academic leaders reported progress and challenges in implementing College strategic plans. Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), presented the Inter-Collegiate Implementation Committee’s findings and urged deeper collaboration across Colleges, departments and administrative units to ensure strategic objectives yield concrete outcomes.
Financial sustainability and risk management were central themes. The Director of Finance, Mr. Benjamin Owusu Addo, reviewed the university’s financial position and called for intensified resource mobilisation, tighter budgetary control and improved procurement oversight. Complementary sessions on enterprise risk and public financial management stressed compliance and internal controls.
Improving graduate employability and industry linkages featured in discussions on curriculum alignment and skills-based training. Ms. Ethel Cofie of EDEL Technology Consulting discussed partnerships that connect academic programmes with market needs. Leadership and productivity lessons from the banking sector, presented by Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, highlighted performance management and accountability.
Human resource updates from HRODD underscored staff wellbeing and administrative efficiency; directors were encouraged to enforce annual leave scheduling and promote balanced workloads.
The retreat concluded with group presentations and a Vice-Chancellor-led wrap-up that reaffirmed the university’s commitment to good governance, sustainable financing and measurable impact for students, staff and national development.
