Google has announced a suite of creator-focused updates for Android 17, introducing new tools spanning reaction video recording, social media integration, AI-powered editing, and professional-grade video formats.
A new feature called Screen Reactions will allow users to simultaneously record themselves and their screen, enabling reaction-style videos to be overlaid directly onto existing content without switching apps or setting up a green screen. The feature is set to debut on Pixel devices first, this summer.
Google has also partnered with Meta to enhance the Instagram experience on Android flagship devices. The integration brings Ultra HDR capture and playback, built-in video stabilisation, and Night Sight support to the platform. Additionally, the capture-to-upload pipeline has been overhauled to preserve image and video quality when content is posted. Testing using Google's Universal Video Quality (UVQ) model indicated that video uploaded to Instagram from Android flagship devices performed on par with, or better than, that of the leading competitor. Instagram has also been fully optimised for Android tablets.
The Instagram Edits app is receiving two Android-exclusive AI-powered upgrades: a Smart Enhance function that upscales photos and videos with a single tap using on-device AI, and a Sound Separation tool that isolates and removes unwanted audio tracks such as wind, background noise, and music.
Adobe Premiere is set to arrive on Android in the coming months, offering creators access to exclusive templates and effects for producing and posting YouTube Shorts directly from the app.
Google also announced APV (Advanced Professional Video), a storage-efficient professional video format co-developed with Samsung. Powered by dedicated hardware acceleration on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, APV is currently available on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X300 Ultra, with additional flagship rollouts expected later this year.
The announcements were made at the Android Show, which is showcasing broader new features across the Android platform.
