Google has introduced Googlebook, a new class of laptop built from the ground up around its Gemini artificial intelligence system, combining elements of Android and ChromeOS in a device the company says is designed for what it describes as an "intelligence system" era.
The announcement, dated May 12, was made by Alex Kuscher, Google's Senior Director of Laptops and Tablets, on the company's official blog. Google said the devices will be available this fall, with hardware partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
The Googlebook's central AI feature is the Magic Pointer, developed in collaboration with Google DeepMind, which delivers contextual Gemini-powered suggestions directly at the user's cursor. A second feature, "Create your Widget," allows users to generate personalised desktop dashboards by prompting Gemini, which can draw from connected services such as Gmail and Calendar.
On the hardware side, every Googlebook will feature a signature "glowbar" design element. Google said the devices will come in a variety of shapes and sizes and will be built with premium materials.
The Googlebook also integrates with Android smartphones, enabling users to run mobile apps and access phone files directly from the laptop's file browser through a feature called Quick Access, without requiring manual file transfers.
Google said more details would be shared ahead of the fall launch. Additional information is available at googlebook.com.
