The ministry said the information emerged after Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), spoke on a television programme, Newsfile, on Dec. 6, 2025. In that broadcast Mr. Appiah Darko allegedly described attempts on the life of the Special Prosecutor and said he himself had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
In its preliminary review, the Interior Ministry reported that initial contacts with Mr. Kissi Agyebeng indicated the alleged assassination attempts, “as claimed,” occurred prior to this year. The ministry also said there was no record or report of such threats against the Special Prosecutor at any police station or at any state security agency in the country.
Noting the wider implications of the claims, the ministry said that “beyond the security implications of these claims, such dangers to personnel of accountability institutions, if true, can undermine the government’s efforts to combat corruption, which have intensified since it took office.” The statement said the ministry had therefore taken the matter “with the seriousness it deserves.”
The Minister of the Interior has directed two actions. First, the ministry has ordered a full-scale investigation into the claim that assassination attempts were made against Mr. Kissi Agyebeng. Second, it has directed an investigation into Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko’s allegation that he was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
The ministry said it would update the public on the outcome of the investigations and on any actions to be taken. In closing, the statement reiterated the ministry’s commitment “to protecting all lives and properties” and to ensuring that Ghanaians can “conduct all their lawful affairs without any fear for their safety.”
The ministry’s announcement did not provide further operational details about the investigations, a timetable for inquiries, or the identities of any agencies formally tasked with undertaking the probes. It also did not include a direct response from the Ghana Police Service or from the Office of the Special Prosecutor beyond the statements attributed to Mr. Appiah Darko and the preliminary findings reported by the ministry.
The Interior Ministry published the notice on its official website on Dec. 8, 2025, as the matter began to draw public attention following the Dec. 6 broadcast. The ministry said it would make subsequent findings and actions public when available.
