The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Theology after successfully defending his thesis at the South African Theological Seminary.
His dissertation, titled “Schisms within The Church of Pentecost: Towards Formulating a Contextualised African Pentecostal Ecclesiology for The Church of Pentecost,” examines divisions within the church and seeks to provide a framework for African Pentecostal practice.
The achievement has drawn praise from members of the church, the wider Christian community, and the Ghanaian public, who highlighted his ability to balance demanding leadership roles with academic rigor.
Nyamekye leads one of the world’s largest Pentecostal movements with branches in over 190 nations. He also serves as President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Chairman of the Ghana Evangelism Committee, and Chancellor of Pentecost University.
On the global stage, he sits on the Advisory Committee of the Pentecostal World Fellowship and is a cabinet member of Empowered21, an international Pentecostal and Charismatic network.
His latest milestone comes shortly after the All Ministers Conference (AMC) at the Pentecost Convention Centre, an event aimed at equipping church leaders for greater impact.
Supporters say the PhD strengthens ongoing efforts to contextualise Christianity in Africa, promote church growth, and engage with national development. Beyond his ecclesiastical duties, Nyamekye is also a member of Ghana’s National Peace Council and has been vocal on issues ranging from moral renewal to civic responsibility.
